Midtown is often called North Raleigh, because it was before the outer look of the Raleigh beltline was built. Most of the homes were built between the 60’s and 1990 with a few newer infill neighborhoods.
Midtown focus area lies between the I-440 Beltline and the I-540 Outer Loop with Umstead Park on the West and Capital Boulevard on the East

There Are Three Midtown Neighborhoods
1.) Midtown Raleigh
Part of the Midtown neighborhood reaches into the Inside-the-Beltline area, and that is covered here. Content below.
2.) Northwest Raleigh
Part of the Northwest Raleigh Neighborhood reaches beyond I-540 into the Brier Creek area. Brier Creek is covered on a separate page which is indexed under North Raleigh.
3.) North Raleigh
Part of the North Raleigh Neighborhood reaches beyond I-540 , but is covered here.
Midtown Raleigh Neighborhood
The Midtown Neighborhood shown in blue on the map above is predominantly in the Midtown area between the I-440 Beltline and the I-540 Outer Loop, but there is an Inside-the-Beltline component.
Included among the subdivisions inside I-440 are:
Williamsborough and Lakestone west of Lassiter Mill Road
Drewry Hills, Spring Valley, and Bellevue terrace east of Lassiter Mill Road.
Ramblewood, Ramblestone, and Ramblewood Lantern east of Lassiter Mill Road.
Included among the subdivisions outside I-440 are:
North Hills
The original North Hills commercial area is where Lassiter Mill intersects Six Forks Road. It is on the east side of Lassiter Mill Rd.
The North Hills subdivision is west of Lassiter Mill Road.
Inman Park and The Enclave at Inman Park
Chestnut Hills
Chestnut Hills lies North and South of Shelley Road.
Between North Hills at Six Forks Road and Falls of the Neuse Road:
Lakemont , Farrior Hills, Hickory Hills, Quail Hollow, and Eastgate
Carroll Middle School, Douglas Elementary School, and Eastgate Park are included in this area.
We are focusing on Hickory Hills in these photographs.
Eastgate Park is a significant amenity of 25.3 acres for this area and includes Cooper’s Pond, tennis, soccer fields, basketball courts, playgrounds, picnic areas, and an unstaffed center.
Yorkshire Downs, Ridgeloch, and Ridgeloch Townhouses
These subdivisions are grouped together along Leadmine Road. The townhouses front Six Forks Road.
