What is North Raleigh?

When my clients ask “what about North Raleigh” I’m pretty quiet for a minute because it’s not an easy area to generalize.

For many years, before the 540 outer loop of Raleigh’s Beltline was built, North Raleigh was the area outside the only Beltline. That area is called Midtown now but to people who have lived there for a long time, it’s still North Raleigh.

North of 540

North of the outer loop 540 is divided into two sections by Falls Lake. West of the lake, in the watershed, development is restricted with no city water and sewer. Lots are over an acre in this area because of septic systems. Homes are pricey because land is so expensive. Commercial development is restricted too. It’s an area of beautiful homes, large estate lots, and no shopping.

East of  Falls Lake and north to Wake Forest is very dense development . Bedford is a popular planned neighborhood in North Raleigh

The Northwest Raleigh Neighborhood is served by Glenwood Ave.  Brier Creek is included in the North Raleigh portion of this neighborhood.

This street serves a number of major subdivisions, including Falls River, Bedford at Falls River,  River Run, and Wakefield. It intersects with Capital Boulevard/ US 1 N. at Wake Forest

The main road in the east section of N. Raleigh is Capital Boulevard, US 1 North

The part of our focal area served by this route is Wake Forest. Warning!! The traffic is bad at rush hour. There isn’t a good way to go to avoid traffic going from 540 south in the morning and north in the afternoon.

There are  Three   Neighborhood Areas in North Raleigh and Numerous Subdivisions not in Neighborhoods

The neighborhood areas found in North Raleigh, which are served by these major streets are:

3.) Northwest Raleigh
